Harrie Smolders was officially crowned Global Champions Tour Champion 2017 after 15 competitions, and local hero Bassem Hassan Mohamed performed an emotional home victory in the large enlighted arena of Al Shaqab in Qatar. Harrie Smolders also won the 2017 Global Champions League as a team member of the Hamburg Diamonds; his horse Don VPH Z again had two clear rounds. Bassem Mohammed was victoriuos in the LGCT Grand Prix with his BWP horse Gunder van de Pereboom (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve), bred by Godfried Storme. Gunder's full brother, Offecier van de Pereboom, has this year been approved as a BWP stallion. The Global Champions League in Doha went to the team Valkenswaard United, in which competed the BWP horse Fair Light van 't Heike (Vigo d' Arsouilles x Darco), bred by Karel Boonen, Kasterlee. The overall victory in the Global Champios League was for the Hamburg Diamonds.
