Odense Odeveld was the star of the CSI5* competition in Monterrey La Silla, Mexico, last weekend. After winning the GP qualification over a height of 1m50, this BWP horse, with Emanuele Camilli, also finished 2nd in the GP on Sunday.
The breeder of Odense Odeveld? Caroline De Laet. Although she immediately tells us that the credit is not only to her.
The story of Odense Odeveld has a surprising and at the same time sad start.
Initially Caroline wanted to breed a foal out of her Lugano mare Jolente. With her, Caroline was allowed to participate in the European Championships twice with the juniors.
Unfortunately things went wrong and Jolente died.
Joris De Brabander was so touched by the story that he made a proposal. "Let's combine Cordula de Laubry with Querlybet Hero and we'll do the foal half each."
Cordula de Laubry, meanwhile, as the dam of Fantomas de Muze and many other international jumpers, is the icon of BWP damline 22, but at that time she was still a young mare.
And so Firenze Odeveld was born, a mare that came about from the collaboration of Caroline, her (now ex-partner) Tom van de Vijver and Joris De Brabander.
Firenze also turned out to be talented and achieved great results in the 7-year-olds. However, an injury prevented a further top sport career.
Firenze was used for breeding and from the combination with Diamant de Semilly, Odense Odeveld was born. Again a foal co-owned by Caroline, Tom and Joris.
At the age of 3, Odense Odeveld was sold to Italian rider Antonio Maria Garofalo. He trained Odense further and started him internationally in the young horse classes.
Their partnership ended in April 2022 with a victory in a CSI4* 1m50 class. Paul Schockemölhe bought Odense Odeveld, Emanuele Camilli became his rider, resulting in last weekend's handsome results.
